I specialize in large highly detailed paintings using oil or acrylic on canvas in the style of the Old Masters school of painting requiring a multitude of thin layers of paint. On some of the paintings the surface is prepared with multiple coats of gesso, finely sanded between each application. This technique creates a luminous three dimensional effect when viewed in low lighting. I use portrait quality framed canvas with 1 and 1/2 inch borders that allow me to extend the painted design to the sides in high detail. My favorite subjects, painted in high realism, are tropical and marine landscapes, koi ponds, tropical fish and Samurai warriors. These paintings have at times required between 100 and 200 hours of time applying paint on canvas. They are a dynamic process as I design them while I paint, adding objects as necessary, incorporating Yin and Yang in their development as done by Chinese masters of the past.
